FRENCH LOUIS XVI STYLE CARVED GILTWOOD BED
Item # 902YIU02P
A product of the late 19th to early 20th century, every aspect of this exquisitely carved and gilded bed frame has been carefully designed and executed. It is covered in a relatively recent striped linen and comes with a matching spread (not pictured). The headboard and footboard molding are decorated with bead embellishments and a recessed infinite-loop within which a rosette is repeated. On each corner are large and beautifully formed reeded finials that sprout from an acanthus base. The thick side rails are detailed with a carved relief repeating design of three grouped leaves and berries; these rails tenon into the footboard and headboard and are locked in place with large iron bolts. It is of unusually high quality and preserved in excellent condition throughout, it is a fine strikepoint piece for a bedroom where the Neoclassical or formal French taste are an important part of the design strategy.
Measurements: 44 3/4" H x 84 3/4" W x 60 3/8" D
Wear to gilding and red bole, minor chipping to wood. Rubbing to the rails and losses of beads. Fabric is later and in overall good condition with no observed flaws.
