LOUIS XVI STYLE CARVED WALNUT THREE-PIECE SALON SUITE
Two arm chairs and a settee; France, circa 1910
Item # 907TPZ17L
Beautifully carved of a dense solid walnut, this antique French salon suite features an open arm settee sofa with a pair of matching fauteuils. Designed in the distinctive Louis XVI style, they are rich in surface ornamentation with relentless carving across nearly every inch of the three pieces. There is a degree of sophistication to the hand carvings that is admirable. Note the complex crest with the pierced ribbon display surrounded by a variety of diverse flowers, these strewn outward along a frame of repeating acanthus foliage and berries over an inner border of infinite beading.
We love the classical design, well developed surface carvings and the rich burnished patina in the walnut with its old oxidized surfaces. And as a matched set of three, they are an absolute strikepoint wherever they are placed.
Measurements: 37 7/8" H x 46 5/8" W x 21 1/8" D x 15" H to seat [settee]; 36 3/4" H x 23 1/4" W x 20 1/4" D x 15" H to seat [arm chairs]
Upholstery in overall fair-to-good condition with some minor fading, wear and spots of blemish/stain. Sturdy joints. Chips to carvings as well as scuffs/scratches to old surface. Comfortable and supportive.
