SET OF TWELVE LOUIS XVI STYLE WHITE AND PARCEL GILT PAINTED DINING CHAIRS
Circa early 20th century, unmarked
Item # 908RUP30A
Executed in the Louis XVI taste, this set of dining chairs is delightfully worn with a nice aged surface throughout. Probably a product of the first quarter of the 20th century, the white paint is early and perhaps original with parcel gilt highlights to the ring turnings, molding edges and inset rosettes. This has a silky burnish from years of rubbing and waxing, resulting in a deep and attractive patina throughout.
There is a simple black linen upholstery with brass tacking on each of the chairs, not old but also not recent - it remains serviceable and comfortable, but should eventually be changed as there are use indicators/wear/stains here and there.
They are a fine set with sleek lines and slender proportions, excellent craftsmanship and striking aesthetics. With ten side chairs and two arm chairs, these are particularly desirable as a full set of twelve.
Measurements: 18 3/4” W x 19” D x 35 1/2” H x 18 1/2” H to seat [side chairs]; 23 1/2” W x 20 1/4” D x 35 1/2” H x 18 1/2” H to seat
Upholstery is worn and faded, several chairs with blemish and stains; overall very comfortable and supportive, webbing, springs and structure in good condition. Old painted surfaces with extensive wear, chipping, abrasions as expected. Some joints restored, overall being tight and sturdy.
