French Neoclassical Giltwood Wall Mirror, 20th Century
FRENCH NEOCLASSICAL CARVED GILTWOOD WALL MIRROR
Circa 20th century
Item # 903DPC30P
A fine hand-made vintage giltwood mirror in the French Neoclassical taste, it is likely a product of the first half of the 20th century and shows fine craftsmanship throughout. There is a distinct modernity about the form, a departure from the highly embellished and variated designs of the 19th century and much more angular with an emphasis on the limited embellishments of the cartouche. This is a vivid display of crossed torchieres over a garland of exquisite foliage intermingled with berries. A pair of heart-shaped fruit with flames rising from the apex rest over a raised-relief sprig over the tablet crest. The frame is simple and molded with feathering and a bead inset. The gilding is magnificent with a rubbed gold that shows hints of the red-bole in overly burnished highlights.
Measurements: 46" H x 30 3/4" W x 1 1/2" D
Very minor wear to gilding, some minor silvering to the mirror.
