GEORGE III MAHOGANY RATCHETING TWO-LIGHT CANDLE STAND
England, circa 1760
Item # 907CUG17P
An exquisite candle stand with a brass oval top into which a pair of candle wells are set, the height of the stand is adjustable up to 45 1/2" by pulling on a sprung knob in the pedestal to allow the top to raise. A carefully designed piece, the top is beautifully shaped with a draped curve to the ovular profile, the brass of the top set within raised-bead molding. The pedestal is set in a laminated base into which the three legs are affixed; these delightful curved legs terminate in carved sabots shaped like little dance shoes. A rich and glowing patina is preserved in the dense mahogany woods.
Measurements: 33 1/8" H x 10 1/2" W [top] x 6 7/8" D [top]; top raises to 45 1/2" H; 16" W at feet
Some patching around the oval top. Minor age related shrinkage cracks in pillar. Old minor repairs to one knee. Remaining in overall excellent original condition, sturdy and stable.
