GRAND TOUR (19TH CENTURY)

A very finely cast Grand Tour model of a Greek scholar sitting beside his son and answering questions his son has about the scroll in hand. The model is a complex arrangement with the two figures and their flowing garments intermingled, the surfaces intricately chiseled and brought to life. It is finished in a complex overall dark brown with hints of the lower ruby red patina glowing through in the rubbed areas. The reverse of the stool the man sits on is chiseled "9703". The whole is situated over a nearly round base of polished Belgian black marble with veins of yellow in the stone.
Measurements: 15 1/2" H (total), 14 5/16" H (bronze); marble base 12 1/8" D x 13 1/4" W
Condition Report:
Fine original condition. Minor scuffs and handling wear to patina, light rubbing wear to raised relief revealing reddish oxide hues to the lower patina; sealed with beeswax, polished and in fine presentation-ready condition.
