ITALIAN ROCOCO WHITE PAINTED PARCEL GILT CONSOLE TABLE
With an original rouge marble top, circa late 19th century
Item # 907TLC31L
A playful piece full of life and movement, this gorgeous console table has great personality in its exaggerated form. The thick rouge marble top is beautifully curved to conform with the table, the corners with large turrets.
Influenced by a distinctly Venetian Rococo taste, everything about the form is larger than life - note the carved embellishments of the knees, these delightful gilded displays of acanthus and scrolled foliage with oversized flowers traveling the knees. A single drawer withdraws from the apron on one side, this crisply hand dovetailed.
The cabriole legs inset deeply with ankles that almost betray the curvature of the grain completely. They are raised over scrolled toes set on stumps with huge furls of acanthus foliage springing up along the foot.
For an interior requiring a piece that is fun, striking, beautifully designed and rich in material, this is a most interesting console table.
