ART DECO BRONZE GROUP OF "LEADING PIERROT" BY PETER TERESZCZUK (AUSTRIA, 1875-1963)
Patinated bronze & carved bone over original onyx base; cold-stamped P. TERESZCZUK AUSTRIA; circa 1918
Item # 006SWP27Q
A rare and fascinating model from Tereszczuk's series of Pierrot, in this scene we see his ability to capture graceful motion with such ease. Pierrot is lost in a world of his own as he takes Pierrette in his arms. The balance and agility are almost feline and they nearly disappear into one another as Pierrette's diaphanous dress swallows the arms wrapped around her, the motion taking it in a swirl around her partner's leg.

Measurements: 14 1/2" H [total]; 11 1/2" H [figures]; base diameter 3 7/8"
Loss to back of onyx base (large 1 3/4" long chip leaves base "out of the round"). Light patina wear throughout, mostly isolated to the raised elements, relieving the black back to a more warm brown hue. Repair to patina of Pierrot's left shoulder. Light surface fissures in bone; slight shrinkage gap between bronze and bone necklines, this somewhat filled with black wax for improved presentation. Professionally waxed, cleaned and a fine presentation.
