About us

silla was born out of a passion for beautiful objects: special pieces with aesthetic and historical significance. In 2009, after years of collecting, Andrew Silla and his wife Grace began to work privately with clients from their residence in Southern Maryland. Quickly outgrowing the space, the business was moved from Maryland to Pennsylvania in 2012 and after several warehouse location changes it was firmly settled in the present brick-and-mortar location in downtown Shippensburg.

The 9000 square foot brick-and-mortar gallery is home to a large collection of works of art and estate jewelry. We specialize in sculpture circa 1860 through 1930 with a particular emphasis on the Animaliers and as such the gallery always has a very large collection of exceptional European and American sculpture available on display.

EMPIRE MAHOGANY PIER TABLE WITH MARBLE COLUMNS
Continental, circa mid-19th century
Item # 109OYP14M

A good 19th century pier table with a gray marble top situated over a squared apron with flamed mahogany veneers raised over sienna marble columns capped with exquisitely chiseled ormolu mounts and stretched with a broad lower shelf over bun feet. The center features an old mirror framed by squared columns on the sides. While the gray marble top is of the period, it is probably taken from another piece of similar size, as the back corners step out and would probably have matched some kind of structure in another piece, but it is a rather nice top with a wonderful worn patina throughout.

Measurements: 38 1/4" H x 21" D x 51" W

Condition Report:
Marble top from another piece of the same period (with projecting rear corners). Lower shelf with extensive cracking, some with old filling, as well as chipping and blemishes. Surface throughout is old and quite oxidized, nearly black in some areas. Backboard is replaced. Mirror is likely an early replacement with some silvering losses. Sturdy and stable.
