Pair of Art Nouveau Giltwood Side Chairs
PAIR OF ART NOUVEAU GILTWOOD SIDE CHAIRS
Circa first quarter of the 20th Century
Item # 510NAU19P
A perfectly designed and proportioned pair of gilt wood side chairs that own the essence of the organic Art Nouveau form, they exhibit precise and gorgeous craftsmanship throughout their remarkably heavy frames. The design is loosely inspired by the curvy nature of the Rococo forms of the Louis XV era, but has an elegant and unique movement that shows the vision of a very talented designer. The chair back has a wonderful flow, the curvature of the pierced stiles changing abruptly in the rather stocky and rooted nature of the rear legs, these with bold reeding and sudden termination. The generous and comfortable seat is stuffed over the rail, the apron with a gentle arch around the three visible sides, the back of the chair with an exaggerated lift. Each knee is carved more with a certain knobby naturalism, the legs with just a gentle cabriole.
For the interior designer and anyone passionate about the Art Nouveau movement, this is a very tasteful and perfectly designed suite that walks a fine balance between art and function.
