PAIR OF GRAND TOUR BRONZE SCULPTURE OF "POMPEIAN DOES"
In the manner of Sabatino de Angelis & Fils; Naples, circa 19th century
Item # 905CVB07
Cast in the manner of founder Sabatino de Angelis and his sons, this fine pair of bronze sculptures were derived from the figures of deer found on raised plinths in the Pompeian ruins of the Villa of Papyri. Each is expertly cast with crisply chiseled surfaces and the standard Herculanean black finish. They are each modeled individually with slightly different poses and angling, allowing them to oppose one another beautifully as bookends. Each is raised over a plinth base.
Measurements: 8 1/2" H x 6 7/8" W x 2 5/8" D
Original patina. Old crack to edge of one plinth base. Wear and discoloration to surfaces.
