PAIR OF LOUIS PHILLIPE CARVED MAHOGANY FAUTEUILS
France, circa 1840
Item # 907HSB17P
This very fine pair of arm chairs is crafted from dense solid mahogany woods throughout, this nicely molded around the back with generous reeding that frames the stuffed and upholstered back. This is covered in an appropriate Napoleonic style fabric with a motif of a bee set within a wreath of laurel leaves. The open arms are bold and substantial with curled foliage at the joint of the arm with the chair back, this round arm curving down into a sea-monster with beautifully detailed scales and hints of flowing waves over a raised-relief carving of sprouting anthemion in the leg corners.
Comfortable and built to last centuries, the chairs remain in excellent condition throughout and are a powerful presentation to any classical interior. The dense polished mahogany holds a warm glowing patina.
