SET OF SEVEN EQUESTRIAN PAINTINGS OF HUNTERS IN STABLE
Each initialed "E.B", in oil on board; circle of John Frederick Herring
Item # C104002
A fine set of matched of seven equestrian paintings of "Hunters in Stable" by a follower of John Frederick Herring, they oppose one another with four right facing and three left facing poses. The works are each initialed in the folds of the warming blankets "E.B." in red script. They have been beautifully conserved and are housed in contemporary giltwood frames. Hung as a group, the paintings make an incredibly powerful presentation.
There is not enough information at this time to make an attribution to Edwin Brown of Coventry (British, 1814-1891), but the consistency of his oeuvre and the stylistic similarities may make further research worthwhile. Edwin Brown focused almost exclusively on equestrian portraiture, much of his work depicting the "Hunters" in both landscape and stable interiors, often accompanied by small dogs. These were generally signed "E. Brown Coventry" or simply "Brown Coventry".
