TEAK, WICKER AND BRASS COFFEE TABLE PETER HVIDT & ORLA MØLGAARD NIELSEN
Model FD 515; manufactured by France & Daverkosen; Denmark, circa 1950s
Item # 001HOK30P
A delightful two-tiered coffee table designed by Peter Hvidt and Orla Mølgaard Nielsen in the 1950s for manufacture by France & Daverkosen, it features a solid teak overall circular profile with a mid-shelf of framed woven wicker surrounded by a solid teak rim hanging from custom brass hardware.
Sleek and austere, it is an interesting exploration of material while maintaining perfect proportional balancing of masses throughout. The use of the wicker creates a transparency in the lower shelf, this placed even higher than the traditional two-thirds to give weight and a sense of substance to the top.
The table retains an original France & Daverkosen label to the underside and remains rich with an old surface only minimally restored.
Measurements: 38 3/4" diameter x 19 3/8" H
Minor wear to teak surface throughout, this re-oiled and lightly restored while retaining original overall patina. In excellent vintage condition.
