FRENCH SCHOOL BRONZE SCULPTURE OF AN ELDERLY MAN
Signed Illegibly, foundry cachet of Thiébaut Frères
Item # 120106WIU14
This fine bronze depicts an elderly man, dressed for heavy weather in a soft brimmed hat and an ankle length buckled overcoat with a full cape draped around his shoulders. He rests on a rough wooden staff, his long beard flowing over his folded hands as he looks off into the distance with a pensive and curious look on his face. His features are sharp and well formed, his high cheekbones, thick bushy eyebrows and strong nose framing eyes that are deep and wise, soft crows-feet wrinkles flanking eyes that have clearly struggled through much. His detailed hands are heavily wrinkled, each knuckle and fingernail formed with incredible detail. A belt and detailed garb are visible behind his staff, his pants well fitted with an outstanding level of realism as they flow over his sharp toed leather boots. He walks over a naturalist base stamped with the foundry mark of Thiébaut Frères.
