Vintage Set of Four Chrome Flat Bar Arm Chairs after BRNO
SET OF FOUR CHROMED STEEL FLAT BAR ARM CHAIRS
After the Mies van der Rohe BRNO chair, unmarked, circa third quarter of 20th century
Item # 703NKJ26O
This set of chrome flat bar steel cantilever dining chairs have long achieved iconic status, the brainchild of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and a form that has remained highly desirable since they were introduced in 1929 for the Tugendhat House in Brno. This set exhibits high quality chroming, the flat bar being heavy and with excellent finishing; the design allows the seat back and seat to be suspended without any visible joinery - all screws and machining occur inside of the upholstered areas and result in a perfectly undistracted surface. The cantilever gives the chairs a delightful spring and element of comfort that only enhances the experience of deeply stuffed and webbed seating. Licensed BRNO chairs from Knoll through DWR generally will retail for upwards of $2k each chair, making this vintage set a very cost effective acquisition for the modern interior.
Measurements: 23 1/4” W x 20 3/4” D x 32 3/8” H, 18 3/4” H to seat
Some discolorations to fabric, wear to back of fabric; covering should be changed in our opinion. Chroming with some scuffs, pitting and oxidization in corners, overall a high quality chrome in good vintage condition. A little wiggle to one arm, which is easily restored with a tightening of the screw from inside the upholstered back (when they are reupholstered and the fabric is off of the back, this is an easy task - we can also tighten it upon request if you don’t mind the fabric being taken off the back).
