About us

silla was born out of a passion for beautiful objects: special pieces with aesthetic and historical significance. In 2009, after years of collecting, Andrew Silla and his wife Grace began to work privately with clients from their residence in Southern Maryland. Quickly outgrowing the space, the business was moved from Maryland to Pennsylvania in 2012 and after several warehouse location changes it was firmly settled in the present brick-and-mortar location in downtown Shippensburg.

The 9000 square foot brick-and-mortar gallery is home to a large collection of works of art and estate jewelry. We specialize in sculpture circa 1860 through 1930 with a particular emphasis on the Animaliers and as such the gallery always has a very large collection of exceptional European and American sculpture available on display.

AUGUST SIEGERT (German, 1786-1869) ANTIQUE OIL PAINTING ON PANEL, VIEW OVER THE RIVER
Signed lower left
Item # 1312LVV06PP

This is a very fine little antique oil painting by August Siegert, an interesting work capturing the vivid architecture of a nineteenth-century riverside city. Executed on a beveled panel, the work remains in an exceptional state of preservation, together with it's later frame. The details are quite nice, the proportions of the complex city architecture somewhat remarkably captured in perfect realism - every window, rooftop gallery, shingle, figure, shadow and partial building reflections are each depicted with utmost integrity in a challenging space. For any collector and connoisseur of 19th Century antique realism paintings, specifically architectural works and river scenes, this is an endearing and quite wonderful selection.

Measurements: [frame] 16 7/8" W; 10 5/8" D [panel] 12 6/16" W; 6 1/16" D
