American School (19th Century) Antique Portrait Painting of a Gentleman
Oil Painting on Canvas, relined in later frame
Item # 130003RQE22
This is a simply gorgeous American School Antique Oil Portrait Painting on Canvas, likely executed during the early to mid 19th Century and relined and restored during the late 20th Century. It is a glowing ovular work, the seated gentleman lit warmly from above, the background lit from beneath to give a cascading light that fades towards the top of the canvas. With deep and concerned features, our subject is certainly full of character and seriousness, though the use of light gives a certain lightheartedness to the overall work. Well detailed in the face, every wrinkle and hair is captured crisply and accurately.
This is a fine work for collectors of antique portrait paintings, one that is full of charm and visual interest, framed in a later gilded rectangular frame.
