BIEDERMEIER STYLE ANTIQUE MAPLE BENCH
Probably Austrian, circa early 20th century
Item # 902RKP26P
A very attractive strike point piece designed in the Biedermeier taste, this hallway bench was likely crafted during the first quarter of the 20th century and shows careful hand craftsmanship in the maple solid wood with tenon-mortise joinery throughout the frame. The wood is gorgeous with a glossy polished lacquer surface that glows golden against the worn maple wood.
The five sets of pierced-splats are tenoned into the crest rail and the seat rail and the entire bench rests over gently cabriole front legs. The upholstery is mellowed from age and remains quite attractive.
It is a fine hallway, sitting room or even bedroom bench that is unusual and quite striking to look at.
