About us

silla was born out of a passion for beautiful objects: special pieces with aesthetic and historical significance. In 2009, after years of collecting, Andrew Silla and his wife Grace began to work privately with clients from their residence in Southern Maryland. Quickly outgrowing the space, the business was moved from Maryland to Pennsylvania in 2012 and after several warehouse location changes it was firmly settled in the present brick-and-mortar location in downtown Shippensburg.

The 9000 square foot brick-and-mortar gallery is home to a large collection of works of art and estate jewelry. We specialize in sculpture circa 1860 through 1930 with a particular emphasis on the Animaliers and as such the gallery always has a very large collection of exceptional European and American sculpture available on display.

EDITH B. PARSONS (AMERICAN, 1878-1956) BRONZE SCULPTURE OF “A PLAYFUL YOUTH
Stamped Gorham Co. Founders OSC, E.B. Parsons C 1913
Item # 702TQX01P

A precious rendition of childhood executed by Edith Parsons and cast by the Gorham Co. foundry in New York, this exquisite little work captures a young child with his hand outstretched to a companion out of sight.  The casting quality is simply perfect, the wonderful impressionism melding with flawless skin and excellent sense of scale.  Most attractive, however, is the verdigris acid patina over a red oxide with hints of brown peering through.  A most moving work that was often cast with another scene of a child that functioned allowed the works to function as a bookend.  It is hard to know if this originally was accompanied by a pair, but the work presents beautifully in solitude.  The underside retains its original plaster core, which generally would have then been covered by felt.

Measurements:  6 1/2” H x 6” W x 2 1/2” D
