About us

silla was born out of a passion for beautiful objects: special pieces with aesthetic and historical significance. In 2009, after years of collecting, Andrew Silla and his wife Grace began to work privately with clients from their residence in Southern Maryland. Quickly outgrowing the space, the business was moved from Maryland to Pennsylvania in 2012 and after several warehouse location changes it was firmly settled in the present brick-and-mortar location in downtown Shippensburg.

The 9000 square foot brick-and-mortar gallery is home to a large collection of works of art and estate jewelry. We specialize in sculpture circa 1860 through 1930 with a particular emphasis on the Animaliers and as such the gallery always has a very large collection of exceptional European and American sculpture available on display.

ALFRED DUBUCAND
French, 1828-1894

"Standing Stag"

Medium brown patina on sand-cast bronze | Signed in cast "A. Dubucand"

Item # 202GPF12P

A beautifully textured model of Standing Stag by Alfred Dubucand, the sculpture features a wonderful all-over silky surface with fine overall texture captured directly from the mold with little cold-tooling evident. Individual hairs in the animal's fur are carefully defined and the antlers are developed with intricate hammering that beautifully simulates reality in miniature. It is finished in a nuanced surface patina of overall medium-brown and hints of black worn through to golden and coppery undertones. It is signed in the base in his typical script "A. Dubucand". The present example of Standing Stag is an adaption Dubucand made in light of the success of his group Stag and Hind (1870), separating both figures and turning them into individual sculptures.

We also may still have in the collection the larger version of this cabinet bronze. Please take a look through our active inventory or contact us for more details.

Measurements: 7 1/8" H x 6 3/8" W x 2 3/4" D

Condition Report: Minor patina wear around the edges of the base. A very fine presentation.
