VENETIAN STYLE BLUE-PAINTED TROMPE L'OEIL SECRETARY DESK
Circa early 20th century with later painted decorations
Item # 304PRK27X
A very decorative and playful Venetian style desk, this delightful form features a lower desk structure with an endlessly curvy set of drawers below a fall front that reveals a single pigeon-hole letter slot over a small drawer with two larger drawers situated on either side. The upper is made separately and is easily removed from the desk - this features a pair of mirrored doors that open to reveal a large cabinet that would have originally had shelving (now absent, but easily recreated). The overall desk is from the early 20th century, but the body has been creatively repainted during the third quarter of the 20th century with wonderful trompe l'oeil scenes of postage, letters, cards, watches, butterflies, hanging jewelry and chains, coins, garlands and other whimsical decorations. It is such a fun piece that really brightens any room while also being very practical and useful.
