About us

silla was born out of a passion for beautiful objects: special pieces with aesthetic and historical significance. In 2009, after years of collecting, Andrew Silla and his wife Grace began to work privately with clients from their residence in Southern Maryland. Quickly outgrowing the space, the business was moved from Maryland to Pennsylvania in 2012 and after several warehouse location changes it was firmly settled in the present brick-and-mortar location in downtown Shippensburg.

The 9000 square foot brick-and-mortar gallery is home to a large collection of works of art and estate jewelry. We specialize in sculpture circa 1860 through 1930 with a particular emphasis on the Animaliers and as such the gallery always has a very large collection of exceptional European and American sculpture available on display.

ART DECO BRASS AND GLASS CURIO CORNER CABINET
Likely French, circa 1940s
Item # 208KQS21P

A very finely crafted brass and glass curio cabinet from the second quarter of the 20th century, it features a curved front profile against a triangulated back intended for placement in a corner. The cabinet features four original tabs that allow it to be firmly secured to the wall for safety, as the cabinet has a tendency to want to tip over with the door opened if left unsecured. The curved door with its conforming curved glass are austere and open to give access to the three fixed glass shelves (removable but not adjustable) with mirrored backs emphasizing the transparency of the cabinet. The cabinet rests over turned and tapered "toupie" feet. A delightful display piece with wonderful overall surface history.

Measurements: 67 3/4" H x 22 1/2" D x 31" W (leg to leg)

Condition Report:
No key and the locking mechanism is untested. The glass shelves are removable and have chipping along the inner corners. Tarnish and silvering loss to the mirrors on the inside. Tarnish to the brass, left unpolished with the natural patina throughout. Very sturdy and well-built with high quality hardware and brass throughout. Door has a bit of tightness when closing/opening, which also does serve to allow the door to stay closed with friction despite not having a key. Must be fastened to the wall using screws through the original brass tabs along the top as the cabinet is front-heavy and will tilt over if unsecured.
