ART DECO MACASSAR EBONY MARBLE-TOP SIDEBOARD
France, circa 1930s
Item # 111YGZ03A
A brilliant strikepoint piece, this Art Deco period sideboard dressed in high-polish lacquered macassar ebony veneers and topped with a large slab of Italian Nero Portoro marble. The cabinet is characterized by three doors that are operated by two nickel-plated matched keys, these opening to reveal two shelves on the right, the middle with a single hand-dovetailed drawer with a nickel-plated pull over a single shelf and the left side with a single shelf. The serpentine superstructure conforms to the curvature of the marble, this set into shallow recesses in the sides of the top. The back of the cabinet reveals tidy joinery with dovetailed lower corners.
Of very fine workmanship and material throughout, it is a remarkable piece that remains preserved in overall original condition.
