About us

silla was born out of a passion for beautiful objects: special pieces with aesthetic and historical significance. In 2009, after years of collecting, Andrew Silla and his wife Grace began to work privately with clients from their residence in Southern Maryland. Quickly outgrowing the space, the business was moved from Maryland to Pennsylvania in 2012 and after several warehouse location changes it was firmly settled in the present brick-and-mortar location in downtown Shippensburg.

The 9000 square foot brick-and-mortar gallery is home to a large collection of works of art and estate jewelry. We specialize in sculpture circa 1860 through 1930 with a particular emphasis on the Animaliers and as such the gallery always has a very large collection of exceptional European and American sculpture available on display.

SET OF SIX ART NOUVEAU CARVED WALNUT AND LEATHER SIDE CHAIRS
Probably French, circa 1910
Item # 311BXP30L

A lovely set of six Art Nouveau dining chairs with only the most subtly carved embellishments, the chairs rely almost entirely on the gentle curves and scrolls to create a most aesthetically pleasing form. They feature original incredibly worn and oxidized floral decorated rawhide leather upholstery with floral embossed brass tacking around the edges, a rich material that only seems to look better as time and gentle wear have left their marks upon it. The frames are a golden walnut with a rich glowing patina. A delightful set.

Measurements: 37 1/2" H x 18" D x 19" W x 18" H to seat

Condition Report:
Extensively worn leather with scuffs, scratches and craquelure - the leather is an absolute treasure and is still serviceable for many decades to come if well-cared for. Sturdy and strong in all joints. Light scuffs and chips to wood, overall remaining in excellent antique condition.
