About us

silla was born out of a passion for beautiful objects: special pieces with aesthetic and historical significance. In 2009, after years of collecting, Andrew Silla and his wife Grace began to work privately with clients from their residence in Southern Maryland. Quickly outgrowing the space, the business was moved from Maryland to Pennsylvania in 2012 and after several warehouse location changes it was firmly settled in the present brick-and-mortar location in downtown Shippensburg.

The 9000 square foot brick-and-mortar gallery is home to a large collection of works of art and estate jewelry. We specialize in sculpture circa 1860 through 1930 with a particular emphasis on the Animaliers and as such the gallery always has a very large collection of exceptional European and American sculpture available on display.

ENGLISH ARTS & CRAFTS OAK TWO-PART CUPBOARD
With a step-back form | clever carved wood latching mechanisms | circa 1920
Item # 403PPK18Q

This is such a fun step-back cupboard. We are particularly taken by the original hand-carved and shaped wooden latching mechanisms - in the upper cabinet, this rotates on the right to reveal the keyhole to unlock the cupboard. In the base the latches rotate to release the doors on either side from the vertical support and open. The cupboard features a single full-width drawer built to a high-grade with hand-cut dovetails in the corners. Both the upper and lower compartments are divided by shelves, the upper cabinet with both shelves being adjustable. Great form. The cabinet separates into two parts for easy transport.

Measurements: 76 1/4" H x 19 5/8" D x 44 3/8" W

Condition Report:
Old silky finish that has only been gently improved and sealed in wax; original finish remains throughout with staining, oxidization and gentle wear from the years. No key and lock is untested. Shrinkage separations between planks on the sides. Faint speckling from white paint in a few spots. Both interior upper shelves replaced and with a gentle curve to them - we can have a solid oak shelf fabricated in-house upon request: contact for pricing and timing; a very nice cabinet, ready to place.
