EXCEPTIONAL LOUIS XV CARVED GILTWOOD MARBLE TOP CENTER TABLE
Paris, circa 1880; signed in script "E. Delmas" on leg, ink stamping inside frame M.D. 612
Item # 706QTX25Z
Of inordinately fine quality and presence, this exceptional Parisian center table is a powerful example of the exuberance for early designs during the Belle E’poque. It is ceaselessly ornamented with a latticework ground and furls of acanthus with the occasional floral relief along the scrolling apron. Distinctly rocaille in inspiration, the knees, apron focal points and center of the stretchers are all loose interpretations of lobed shells with opposing C-scrolls. It is an example of perfect balance and flawless proportion. The thick rouge marble top is molded around the edges and conforms with the complex frame profile; beneath the marble in the top of one leg is a crisp scratched signature reading E. Delmas.
For the collector of the finest in Parisian furnishings, this is a superior investment grade example.
