About us

silla was born out of a passion for beautiful objects: special pieces with aesthetic and historical significance. In 2009, after years of collecting, Andrew Silla and his wife Grace began to work privately with clients from their residence in Southern Maryland. Quickly outgrowing the space, the business was moved from Maryland to Pennsylvania in 2012 and after several warehouse location changes it was firmly settled in the present brick-and-mortar location in downtown Shippensburg.

The 9000 square foot brick-and-mortar gallery is home to a large collection of works of art and estate jewelry. We specialize in sculpture circa 1860 through 1930 with a particular emphasis on the Animaliers and as such the gallery always has a very large collection of exceptional European and American sculpture available on display.

AMERICAN RUSTIC AND HEAVILY PATINATED OAK AND YELLOW PINE TRESTLE TABLE
Circa late 19th century | a fantastic X-form structure
Item # 306TZX07P

This remarkable American trestle table is distinguished by its impressive surface patina. It showcases an X-form leg profile crafted from solid oak, complemented by a shelved stretcher at the bottom. The top of the table consists of four solid yellow pine planks that display a rich patina. The construction is simple yet efficient, primarily relying on nailed joinery. Originally, it was likely designed to be positioned against a wall, serving as a harvest or prep table. This is evident from the shaped battens on the underside of the table top, which have one side curved and the other side flat. However, this versatile table can function equally well as a centerpiece in a room or as a breakfast table in the kitchen.

Measurements: 32" H x 37" D x 72" W

Condition Report:
Wonderful all-over wear with dark oxization throughout, darkening of the pine from natural oils and rubbing, splitting, gouges, chips and wear; legs have a cerused surface with remnants of paint left in the lower levels of the grain profile; blocks were added to the underside of the top and modern screws were driven through the frame into these blocks; the upper stretcher beneath the top was added at some point during the 20th century, a somewhat crudely made piece to stabilize the structure; other repairs. Sturdy (though with a light wiggle back and forth due to the nature of the structure) and perfectly functional, ready for regular use.
