A SUPERB GILT BRONZE WALL MIRROR WITH BEVELED AND ETCHED GLASS
Retaining original label from Alexandre Jeune, Paris; circa 1880
Item # 012XPP14Q
An incredibly fine mirror by the firm of Alexandre Jeune of Paris from the last quarter of the 19th century, the frame is an extraordinarily complex series of cast and gilded bronze mounts designed in the Louis XVI taste.
The quality is noteworthy with precise chiseling and hand-chasing of the elements, beautiful texturing and hammering to surfaces and a gorgeous gold finish. This surrounds and locks in place the mirror design made up of several pieces of glass that have been cut to create a beveled border surrounding a flat primary surface. The borders are beautifully acid etched with opposing C-scrolls and sprouting flowers and foliage - these very thick and heavy pieces of mirrored glass are perhaps recycled from a prior mirror, as the edges are seamed in three corners to allow a perfect centering of the etched design.
The back of the mirror retains an original label reading "Alexandre Jeune / Miroitier / Paris / 93 Faubourg St Antoine".
