About us

silla was born out of a passion for beautiful objects: special pieces with aesthetic and historical significance. In 2009, after years of collecting, Andrew Silla and his wife Grace began to work privately with clients from their residence in Southern Maryland. Quickly outgrowing the space, the business was moved from Maryland to Pennsylvania in 2012 and after several warehouse location changes it was firmly settled in the present brick-and-mortar location in downtown Shippensburg.

The 9000 square foot brick-and-mortar gallery is home to a large collection of works of art and estate jewelry. We specialize in sculpture circa 1860 through 1930 with a particular emphasis on the Animaliers and as such the gallery always has a very large collection of exceptional European and American sculpture available on display.

PAIR OF FRENCH SCRUBBED PINE TENON-MORTISED DOORS
With decoupage & trompe l'oeil decoration throughout | 19th century

95 1/2" H x 33 3/8" W (approximately for both doors), 16 7/8" W per door; 1 1/8" door depth

These worn French scrubbed pine doors are austere in construction with full width planks of solid pine divided by a single cross-member in the upper and breadboard ends affixed on the top and bottom of the door, all with small wooden pegs driven through the tenons to lock the form together. What would otherwise be very plain has been transformed into a visually chaotic and playful collection of applied decoupage prints that have been manipulated with trompe l'oeil artistry.

Condition Report:
Heavily worn, loss to decoupage, surface beautifully oxidized and patinated throughout; shrinkage splits etc.; doors are in as-is condition with missing hardware; they would require professional work in order to be hung operationally in a home.
