About us

silla was born out of a passion for beautiful objects: special pieces with aesthetic and historical significance. In 2009, after years of collecting, Andrew Silla and his wife Grace began to work privately with clients from their residence in Southern Maryland. Quickly outgrowing the space, the business was moved from Maryland to Pennsylvania in 2012 and after several warehouse location changes it was firmly settled in the present brick-and-mortar location in downtown Shippensburg.

The 9000 square foot brick-and-mortar gallery is home to a large collection of works of art and estate jewelry. We specialize in sculpture circa 1860 through 1930 with a particular emphasis on the Animaliers and as such the gallery always has a very large collection of exceptional European and American sculpture available on display.

GEORGE III MAHOGANY TWO-DRAWER SIDE TABLE
England, circa 1790 | from the Peggy and David Rockefeller estate
Item # 312KOP07A

Of perfect proportions, this glowing little side table features an overall rectangular form with a brilliantly grained mahogany top panel with a reeded edge projecting over two small rectangular drawers in the front, each with round pressed-brass ring pulls working to withdraw the crisply hand-dovetailed drawers from the apron. Echoing the reeding in the top, applied reeded moldings surround the lower edge of the apron, these the only embellishments on an otherwise austere form. An old handwritten label on the back serves as an inventory tag, noting "D.R. 52.1283"

Measurements: 28 1/2" H x 19 1/4" D x 24 3/4" W

Provenance:

  • With Stuart and Turner, London, acquired in 1947
  • Collection of Peggy and David Rockefeller
  • Christie's, New York, 11 May 2018, lot 1583 [16099: "The Collection of Peggy and David Rockefeller"], achieved $ 4,000
  • Private Collection through the present

Condition Report:
Replaced brasses with plugged holes; old finish with wonderful all-over glow through aged shellac, discolorations and variation to the surface throughout; missing strip of molding on right side (on top of the front leg); molding on the right side was reglued at some point (trace glue remnants visible), not particularly professional with slight angle mismatch. A very attractive presentation.
