About us

silla was born out of a passion for beautiful objects: special pieces with aesthetic and historical significance. In 2009, after years of collecting, Andrew Silla and his wife Grace began to work privately with clients from their residence in Southern Maryland. Quickly outgrowing the space, the business was moved from Maryland to Pennsylvania in 2012 and after several warehouse location changes it was firmly settled in the present brick-and-mortar location in downtown Shippensburg.

The 9000 square foot brick-and-mortar gallery is home to a large collection of works of art and estate jewelry. We specialize in sculpture circa 1860 through 1930 with a particular emphasis on the Animaliers and as such the gallery always has a very large collection of exceptional European and American sculpture available on display.

GRAND TOUR POLYCHROMED BRONZE GROUP OF "TWO FATES"
Foundry cachet verso for "R. Bellair & Co, Berlin, Friedrichstr.182"
Item # 012JIP09L

A good Grand Tour classical bronze group based on the original sculpture in the east pediment of the Parthenon by the Athenian sculptor Phidias while the missing extremities of that group have been re-imagined by the foundry. It captures Clotho and Atropos, two of the three sisters that together with Lachesis are the Three Fates. They are the three that measure, hold and cut short the thread of life running through creation. The same model was executed by Auguste Clésinger with a much more interesting "restoration" of the missing extremities, a sculpture we may still hold in the gallery inventory.

The present model is finished in a bole-red polychrome surface patina with relieved highlights throughout, this rich and vibrant under beeswax. It is a gorgeous cabinet bronze for any collector of Grand Tour works.

Measurements: 13" W x 7 7/8" H x 3 3/8" D
