PAUL-EDOUARD DELABRIERRE
French, 1829-1912
"Chien de Chasse" [Hunting Dog with Bird in Mouth]
Patinated bronze, medium-brown with golden highlights | signed in cast "E. DELABRIERRE" | cast circa 1870
Item # 303PXF25A
Like most models cast in Delabrierre's lifetime, the present model is handsomely detailed. Note the fine chasing of the feet with each nail carefully chiseled, the exquisite handling of details throughout the duck, the hammered texturing of the plants and intricate modeling of the dog's hair with various widths of stylus. The texture of the original mold has been beautifully captured in the bronze and is only sparingly enhanced by the skilled hand of the ciseleur. Finished in a rich medium-brown patination with golden/burnished-bronze relief, the subtle textures and ripples of the surface capture light in a dramatic way. There are two variations of this model, one with the hunting dog standing without a duck and the present model with the duck. We may still have the other variation available still in our shop inventory.
