About us

silla was born out of a passion for beautiful objects: special pieces with aesthetic and historical significance. In 2009, after years of collecting, Andrew Silla and his wife Grace began to work privately with clients from their residence in Southern Maryland. Quickly outgrowing the space, the business was moved from Maryland to Pennsylvania in 2012 and after several warehouse location changes it was firmly settled in the present brick-and-mortar location in downtown Shippensburg.

The 9000 square foot brick-and-mortar gallery is home to a large collection of works of art and estate jewelry. We specialize in sculpture circa 1860 through 1930 with a particular emphasis on the Animaliers and as such the gallery always has a very large collection of exceptional European and American sculpture available on display.

AN EXCEPTIONAL FIGURED MAHOGANY BED BY LOUIS MAJORELLE
"Pirouette", model no. 512; circa 1910
Item # 710GPP17

This incredibly fine work of art is from the Pirouette collection by Louis Majorelle; it is unsigned, but we acquired it along with the matching dresser and mirror, both of which are identical to the bed and signed by Majorelle.  The suite is catalogued in Duncan’s work on Majorelle.

A remarkable example, the figured mahogany is rich and chaotic with perfect matched grains that create the spiral effect the series is titled for.  Custom bronzes on each corner are exquisitely cast and expertly chiseled while sharp turned brass beading set in channels throughout the frame.  A pair of benchmade braces dovetail into either side of the frame to lend support to a modern boxspring, these probably added not too long ago.

For anyone that appreciates fine design and rich and rare materials, this bedstead is of self-evident superiority.  Check our inventory, as the signed dresser with mirror and nightstand en suite may still be available.
