ART NOUVEAU FIGURED MAHOGANY DRESSER AND MIRROR
Louis Majorelle, “Pirouette” model 512, France circa 1910; both signed “Majorelle, Nancy"
Item # 710LEJ17P
This is an inordinately well crafted piece of furniture. Thick and generous selections of mahogany are carved into organic molded forms inset with a turned ball-and-barrel brass beading that is inordinately crisp and fine. Custom bronze mounts on each corner of the dresser tie the piece in perfectly with the bed and nightstand we also have in the shop from the Pirouette collection. All three were acquired from the same estate, but only the mirror and dresser are signed by Louis Majorelle; the mirror has an ebony inlaid signature, the dresser with the same signature using a blondewood. It is difficult to convey the level of quality expressed in this piece, from the exquisite veneers to the carvings and custom bronze mounts, the thick oak secondary woods and fine joinery; every aspect of the piece is finished with great attention to detail and pride. While it is certainly a collector piece, it is also a stunning strikepoint piece for the modernist interior as well. These were objects made to last generations, each pushing the envelope of design and tradition in their day, the result being rather timeless. Check our gallery inventory for the bed and nightstand as well, as these may still be available.
