About us

silla was born out of a passion for beautiful objects: special pieces with aesthetic and historical significance. In 2009, after years of collecting, Andrew Silla and his wife Grace began to work privately with clients from their residence in Southern Maryland. Quickly outgrowing the space, the business was moved from Maryland to Pennsylvania in 2012 and after several warehouse location changes it was firmly settled in the present brick-and-mortar location in downtown Shippensburg.

The 9000 square foot brick-and-mortar gallery is home to a large collection of works of art and estate jewelry. We specialize in sculpture circa 1860 through 1930 with a particular emphasis on the Animaliers and as such the gallery always has a very large collection of exceptional European and American sculpture available on display.

SET OF EIGHT DOUBLE-CANTILEVER BLACK LEATHER "CH66" DINING CHAIR BY NICOS ZOGRAPHOS
United States, circa 1970s
Item # 307GYP27X

A rare set of eight "CH66" dining chairs by Nicos Zographos, they feature the uncommon "double cantilever" executed in high quality chromed steel tube. The thick top-grain leather is dyed black and is made all the more comfortable with the use of original springs beneath the seat bottom and behind the chair back. Several of the black leather seats and chair backs are original while others are vintage replacements. It is an incredibly difficult form to find, especially in these larger sets.

Measurements: 30 7/8" H x 19" W x 21 3/8" D, 18 1/8" H to seat

Condition Report:
Chrome plating in overall "good" condition with minor pitting and scuffing - most scuffing is on the top bars where they might touch the wall; scuffing beneath legs where they rub the ground; several seat backs / bottoms replaced (note the slight variation: the original pieces have a pressed edge). Leather w/ a nice vintage overall wear, scuffing and stretching commensurate with age. Some legs ever-so-slightly out of square when viewed straight on. All original springs, several with trace rust and oxidization. One chair in the photos missing screws at the back holding leather seat backs up, but these have since been replaced and all are present.
