About us

silla was born out of a passion for beautiful objects: special pieces with aesthetic and historical significance. In 2009, after years of collecting, Andrew Silla and his wife Grace began to work privately with clients from their residence in Southern Maryland. Quickly outgrowing the space, the business was moved from Maryland to Pennsylvania in 2012 and after several warehouse location changes it was firmly settled in the present brick-and-mortar location in downtown Shippensburg.

The 9000 square foot brick-and-mortar gallery is home to a large collection of works of art and estate jewelry. We specialize in sculpture circa 1860 through 1930 with a particular emphasis on the Animaliers and as such the gallery always has a very large collection of exceptional European and American sculpture available on display.

EDITH BARETTO PARSONS
United States, 1878-1956

"Terriers, a pair of bookends"

Lost-wax cast medium-brown and verdigris patinated bronze | signed in cast "E.B. PARSONS (c)" and cold-stamped Gorham Co. Founders and foundry code of "OFFY" & "OFFZ", both written in black ink beside foundry mark "348"

Item # 304XAI18A

Part of Parsons' series of playful terrier dogs, this is a highly desirable original pair that have remained together since being issued by the Gorham foundry. So often we find these fabulous casts of Parsons' work being split up and while we still love to carry the models individually, they are particularly rare and special when they remain together as an original pair. This pair features a brilliant medium-brown patination highlighted by a carefully executed verdigris chaotically throughout. They remain in nearly pristine condition.

Measurements: [seated dog] 6 1/2" H x 7" W x 2 5/8" D; [crouched dog] 5 1/8" H x 6 7/8" W x 2 5/8" D

Condition Report:
Excellent original condition with very minor patina wear. Carefully cleaned and sealed, a fine presentation.
