Born in Paris in May of 1877, Riche quickly gained recognition as a highly skilled sculptor, exhibiting at Salon at only 19 years of age. Primarily sculpting animals, he most enjoyed sculpting cats, a subject he produced a number of studies on. As a student of Georges Gardet (French, 1863-1939), he exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français starting in 1897 and at Salon des Independants from 1923.
