About us

silla was born out of a passion for beautiful objects: special pieces with aesthetic and historical significance. In 2009, after years of collecting, Andrew Silla and his wife Grace began to work privately with clients from their residence in Southern Maryland. Quickly outgrowing the space, the business was moved from Maryland to Pennsylvania in 2012 and after several warehouse location changes it was firmly settled in the present brick-and-mortar location in downtown Shippensburg.

The 9000 square foot brick-and-mortar gallery is home to a large collection of works of art and estate jewelry. We specialize in sculpture circa 1860 through 1930 with a particular emphasis on the Animaliers and as such the gallery always has a very large collection of exceptional European and American sculpture available on display.

DANISH MODERN PETER LØVIG NIELSEN ROSEWOOD FLIP-TOP WRITING DESK
With Løvig Dansk Design branding to underside; Denmark, manufactured in 1972
Item # 912PNX13A

This brilliant desk was designed by Peter Løvig Nielsen and originally was offered finished in teak, oak and rosewood. The present example is the more rare and visually stunning Brazilian rosewood veneer, the entire desk having been lovingly restored with a vibrant finish.

Of particular interest is how the design utilizes a hinged shelf on the desk top that flips down to create a large comfortable working surface. The flipping shelf is comfortably divided with open paper compartments, one with a removable dovetailed box and a series of letters lots. It features four drawers with molded rosewood pulls, one marked on the underside 1972; the opposite of the desk has a few file compartments that end up being hidden from view when the hinged shelf is flipped down.

It retains the original Løvig Dansk Design brand markings to the underside.

Measurements: 33 7/8" H x 28 3/4" D x 63 7/8" W; height from floor to underside of the desk is 23 1/2"

Condition Report:
Refinished. No key. One drawer pull with an old repaired crack. Small veneer flaw inside back of desk where the leg comes through the file compartments.
