SMOKING CANE WITH A ROTATING MONEY BOX AND HIDDEN MATCH COMPARTMENT
Unmarked, probably English; circa 1888 (marked PAT. DEC 11 1888)
35" H x 2 1/8" W
An interesting smoker's cane, the compartment at the top rotates to reveal hidden nickels for buying a cigar and the side of the handle can be withdrawn to grab a match. Situated over an ebonized tapered shaft terminating in a conforming tapered sabot.
Condition: Wear through the nickel-plating in the handle and sabot with trace oxidization and tarnish, scuffs and scratches. Shaft appears to have been refinished during the 20th century, worn with abrading as expected from gentle use.
