About us

silla was born out of a passion for beautiful objects: special pieces with aesthetic and historical significance. In 2009, after years of collecting, Andrew Silla and his wife Grace began to work privately with clients from their residence in Southern Maryland. Quickly outgrowing the space, the business was moved from Maryland to Pennsylvania in 2012 and after several warehouse location changes it was firmly settled in the present brick-and-mortar location in downtown Shippensburg.

The 9000 square foot brick-and-mortar gallery is home to a large collection of works of art and estate jewelry. We specialize in sculpture circa 1860 through 1930 with a particular emphasis on the Animaliers and as such the gallery always has a very large collection of exceptional European and American sculpture available on display.

ARNE VODDER FOR SIBAST MØBELFABRIK TEAK EXECUTIVE DESK WITH CREDENZA RETURN
Denmark, circa 1960s | Sibast label affixed to underside

[desk] 28 1/2" H x 35 5/16" D x 80 3/16" W
[credenza] 25" H x 16 9/16" D x 65" W

This exquisite executive desk from the 200 series designed by Arne Vodder for manufacture by Sibast Møbelfabrik in Denmark during the 1960s is fine and difficult to find in the United States. It features the distinctive "floating top" with molded ends raised over a series of drawers on the right side, the top drawer fitted with some organization over a larger filing cabinet. The credenza and desk do not actually attach, with the desk just floating on top of the credenza.

The credenza itself is a thing of beauty - the back edge is molded to match the profile of the desk and all pulls are sculpted out of teak with machined metal. The sliding door opens to show a shelved storage compartment in the deepest part (shelves absent) and to give access to a series of lacquered drawers in the center. The end of the credenza has a small cabinet space that opens to a shelved interior. The original Sibast label is affixed to the underside of the desk.

Condition Report:
No key. Surface has been conditioned and oiled, but some color variation remains where the desk likely had a work mat. The inside of the cabinet in the end of the return had internal veneer damage due to amateur leg tightening with screws too long for the cabinet - we reversed the work and properly affixed the leg bracket, then filled the veneer loss and inpainted the affected area in the cabinet base. Some tiny nails visible along the edge of the desk, various stray white-marks, dings and abrasions along the top of the desk, other age-appropriate active-use appropriate blemishes and flaws. Overall the desk remains in very good condition and is ready to place.
