About us

silla was born out of a passion for beautiful objects: special pieces with aesthetic and historical significance. In 2009, after years of collecting, Andrew Silla and his wife Grace began to work privately with clients from their residence in Southern Maryland. Quickly outgrowing the space, the business was moved from Maryland to Pennsylvania in 2012 and after several warehouse location changes it was firmly settled in the present brick-and-mortar location in downtown Shippensburg.

The 9000 square foot brick-and-mortar gallery is home to a large collection of works of art and estate jewelry. We specialize in sculpture circa 1860 through 1930 with a particular emphasis on the Animaliers and as such the gallery always has a very large collection of exceptional European and American sculpture available on display.

BRONZE SCULPTURE OF "SANS FAMILLE" AFTER MODEL BY EUTROPE BOURET (FRENCH, 1833-1906)
In a reddish-brown patina; over rotating base; signed "BOURET"; foundry seal "Bronze Garanti au Titre"
Item # 012HKP14A

A complex and very fine bronze model of Sans Famille ("Without Family", also known as "The Orphan Boy with His Harp") by Eutrope Bouret, this large sculpture is raised over a ring and flange that allows it to fully rotate and be viewed from any angle.

The sculpture is striking when viewed from any angle, capturing the steadfast youth with his textured garment with his head held high and hope in his eyes. The harp is particularly well-cast, complete with an intricate ram's head surmounting the column and features copper strings that wrap around the working hardware pins along the crest and through the body below. Tiny machined screws allow access to the underside of the harp body, allowing you to fix strings if they become loose or broken.

The model is exceedingly complex and positively gorgeous, the casting quality above reproach and beautifully finished in a lovely reddish-brown patination.

The reverse of the model base is sealed with the cachet "Bronze Garanti au Titre" and the naturalistic base is signed BOURET. Two machined pins along the base edge allow the viewer to turn the model without handling the sculpture.
