WALLACE BRYANT (AMERICAN, 1870-1953) OIL PAINTING OF A LONE FIGURE ON PATH
Signed lower left “Wallace Bryant, Normandie 1895"
Item # 508LJU16P
There is a certain loneliness and raw sense of loss in this scene - the painting captures a lone figure walking down a seemingly endless path at the end of the day, the sun casting long shadows as it sets. The colors are so deep and high-chroma, the myriad of green mixtures flooding the eye and drawing deeper attention to the center of the image. Wallace Bryant is noted in the Benezit as having studied under Bouguereau, Tony Robert-Fleury, Benjamin Constant and Jean-Paul Laurens in Paris, also being a member of the Boston Art Club and an exhibitor at the National Academy in New York - this work is a most excellent example of his skill and command of the brush, the gentle bokeh graduating from soft detail to a total blur in the distance. The shadow work is perfectly technical and blend of saturated colors with high-chroma most magnetic to the viewer. Carefully conserved and offered in ready-to-hang condition, this is a precious piece you will certainly cherish in your collection for a lifetime.
