A FINELY WOVEN FEREGHAN SAROUK ROOM-SIZE RUG
Circa late 19th century | with 8 storks surrounding the central medallion
Item # 306LVD21A
A brilliant and incredibly complex tightly-woven Fereghan Sarouk antique carpet of room-size proportions, this extraordinary rug features four pairs of storks at each corner of the central medallion. A highly pictorial carpet, it features vivid floral representations of sprawling gardens flowing symmetrically around the nine-point motif emanating out from a central rosette, the eight vines in stretching out from the coral center to raise the outer edges of the medallion. The palette is beautifully nuanced with a full spectrum of rich color represented in the diverse collection of imagery. Instead of a singular red dye in the primary ground and other motifs, it includes hues of rust, brick red, coral, pink and light pink. Similarly in the spandrels and in hints of elements throughout, the colors range from light blue to teal to pale green. Note the incredibly intricate borders, each with tightly detailed edging - even the minor borders are fully realized.
An incredibly compelling find for the collector of fine rugs.
Measurements: 103" W x 138 1/2" L
Condition Report: Low pile throughout with minor visibility of the underlying structure. Some discoloration and minor staining, more observed in the brighter grounds (for example, in a few spots around the central motif in the ivory ground) - as is the case with all of our carpets, the present rug is in estate-found condition and has not been professionally cleaned. Flexible and pliable structure. A very fine presentation.
