Bust of Greek Warrior
Patinated bronze | unsigned | cast circa late 19th century
Item # 304KEX30P
A fine casting that probably depicts the warrior Achilles, though perhaps being a depiction of Aeneas. The warrior is captured looking to the right with a firm jaw and a determined intensity that follows from his eyes through all of his features. He wears a brilliantly decorated helmet flanked on either side with wings, the body of the helmet decorated with bas-relief scrolling acanthus below the large plume that cascades over the crown. The cast dates from the fourth quarter of the 19th century and rests over a separately cast turned socle over a squared plinth.
Measurements: 18 1/8" H x 8 1/4" W x 5 1/4" D
Condition Report:
Natural age related variation to the patina including surface staining, light wear, trace tarnish and underlying accretion. Carefully cleaned, sealed in wax and polished. A very nice presentation.
