JUGENDSTIL MARQUETRY INLAID VANITY CABINET
Probably Austrian, circa 1920s
Item # 009TJF18L
A rare gem, this Jugendstil period table-top vanity is a most fine presentation piece of the highest quality. The use of vibrant ebony veneers with pleasing symmetrical horizontal grain patterns around the body creates a distinct contrast against the brighter solid walnut in the apron and frame; the front doors are marquetry inlaid with alternating light-and-dark burled walnut to create domed panels with a three-leaf pattern raised on a spear. They are monogrammed "L N" and the keyhole is positioned perfectly within one of the leaf inlays.
The doors open to reveal a shelved interior flanking a framed mirror, both doors also mirrored and mirrored glass finishing the bottom of the cabinet. It is raised over a molded solid walnut base with a scalloped apron and outward splayed legs with padded feet. Other than the loss to the back left foot, the cabinet remains in exquisite original condition.
Measurements: 23 1/4" H x 9" D x 23" W
Condition Report:
Loss to back left foot. Silvering loss to mirror. Stains to shelves inside of cabinet. Original finish with minor scuffs and abrasions consistent with age - overall a very fine presentation.
