About us

silla was born out of a passion for beautiful objects: special pieces with aesthetic and historical significance. In 2009, after years of collecting, Andrew Silla and his wife Grace began to work privately with clients from their residence in Southern Maryland. Quickly outgrowing the space, the business was moved from Maryland to Pennsylvania in 2012 and after several warehouse location changes it was firmly settled in the present brick-and-mortar location in downtown Shippensburg.

The 9000 square foot brick-and-mortar gallery is home to a large collection of works of art and estate jewelry. We specialize in sculpture circa 1860 through 1930 with a particular emphasis on the Animaliers and as such the gallery always has a very large collection of exceptional European and American sculpture available on display.

FINE BRONZE BUST OF “BOHEME ORIENTALE" AFTER MODEL BY RENZO COLOMBO (ITALIAN, D. 1885)
Sealed "Bronze Garanti Au Titre Paris" en verso
Plaque on front reads "Boheme Orientale Par Colombo", the shoulder signed "Colombo"
Item # 1403QVP05-S

Resting over an arabesque table, this work was sculpted during a period of widespread European interest in the Middle East and Orient.  The bust captures the features of a free spirit; her features are strong and distinct, her sharp nose and clearly defined jaw most striking. Her hair is wrapped in a thin wavy cloth, almost haphazardly, while she is draped in a loose garment with a ornamental gun tucked into it.  This is a rare sculpture from Renzo Colombo, a sculptor perhaps best known for his bold bust of Napoleon. Very infrequently found on the open market, this is an investment grade work in a wonderful state of preservation. For any serious collectors of Orientalism, this is a positively exceptional find.
