FRENCH NEOCLASSICAL GREEN MARBLE GILT-METAL MOUNTED PEDESTAL
Circa late 19th century, with inset rotation point
39 5/8" H x 8" D x 15 1/4" W (at the top); diameter of brass mounting point is 3/4"
A lovely angular French pedestal from the last quarter of the 19th century, it features a warm translucent green marble with moderate veining. The shaped rectilinear top features an inset brass mounting point for a sculpture with a pintle, allowing a piece set on the top to rotate smoothly or simply to be more firmly affixed upon the top. Tasteful cast gilt-metal architectural elements allow the mostly squared profile of the top to seamlessly transition to the circular tapered baluster with twisted rope elements at the top and bottom of the column. An incredibly heavy and stable one-piece column, it does not disassemble for more simply transportation, which is slightly inconvenient but also makes the column much more stable and sturdy.
Condition: Light scratches and scuffing to the marble top, chips to the edge of the top. Numerous chips and roughness around the base along with some flea bites and scuffing. Discoloration to the gilt metal. Sturdy and ready to place.
