About us

silla was born out of a passion for beautiful objects: special pieces with aesthetic and historical significance. In 2009, after years of collecting, Andrew Silla and his wife Grace began to work privately with clients from their residence in Southern Maryland. Quickly outgrowing the space, the business was moved from Maryland to Pennsylvania in 2012 and after several warehouse location changes it was firmly settled in the present brick-and-mortar location in downtown Shippensburg.

The 9000 square foot brick-and-mortar gallery is home to a large collection of works of art and estate jewelry. We specialize in sculpture circa 1860 through 1930 with a particular emphasis on the Animaliers and as such the gallery always has a very large collection of exceptional European and American sculpture available on display.

LOUIS XVI STYLE CARVED TEAL POLYCHROMED DAYBED
Stamped twice to underside "L. BONTEMPS PARIS"

Paris, France circa 1880

83" W x 38" H x 35 1/4" D; 18 1/2" H to seat

A finely carved daybed in the Louis XVI taste by the Parisian tapissier L. Bontemps, the daybed features openly pegged tenon-mortised construction beneath a very early polychromed teal painted surface that is beautifully worn and patinated. The uprights on either end feature pyramidal finials with acanthus relief decoration over molded rails. The entire form rests over tapered fluted legs.

Condition: Estate-found upholstery left on the daybed, torn and discolored throughout; reupholstery is required. Extensive surface wear and rubbing to the early painted surface throughout. Original iron L-bracket hardware to support bed frame. Original through-bolts, some receiving nuts for the bolts to thread into replaced (one is a modern nut). Sturdy and tight when assembled.
