About us

silla was born out of a passion for beautiful objects: special pieces with aesthetic and historical significance. In 2009, after years of collecting, Andrew Silla and his wife Grace began to work privately with clients from their residence in Southern Maryland. Quickly outgrowing the space, the business was moved from Maryland to Pennsylvania in 2012 and after several warehouse location changes it was firmly settled in the present brick-and-mortar location in downtown Shippensburg.

The 9000 square foot brick-and-mortar gallery is home to a large collection of works of art and estate jewelry. We specialize in sculpture circa 1860 through 1930 with a particular emphasis on the Animaliers and as such the gallery always has a very large collection of exceptional European and American sculpture available on display.

GEORGE III BRONZE SIGNAL CANNON ON LIGNUM VITAE CARRIAGE
England, circa first half of 19th century; unmarked
Item # C104014

A fine and rather large George III cast bronze signal cannon from the first half of the 19th century, the hand-crafted workmanship and attention to detail is remarkable. The cannon is an incredibly heavy casting and is unmarked. It rests over a stepped carriage cut from lignum vitae with hanging hooks for securing the cannon to the yacht decking. Carefully machined elements on the top of the carriage include half-hoops and brass wedges that are easily released to lift the cannon free.

A rare and fine piece preserved in excellent original condition.

Measurements: 16" W x 10" H x 8 5/8" D

Condition Report:
Very fine original condition. A few screws missing beneath the carriage. All original components. Cannon is untested but appears complete. Minor white paint marks on wheels. Old scars and abrasions to carriage. Fine surface patina throughout all components.
